The Elysium Star II will be launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The Elysium Space, a pioneer company in the area of memorial spaceflight, posted a press release about its first spacecraft, the Elysium Star II, earlier this week. In it, the firm presented its plans for the first space-bound memorial, which already gathered some 100 participants.

Last year, in November, Elysium Space announced that it would be collaborating with SpaceX in fulfilling the first memorial spaceflights services, which will be carried out annually. A first such spacecraft, the Elysium Star II, will be launched aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base from California.

“This historical launch provides the perfect conditions to make this memorial spaceflight an exceptionally meaningful experience for all participants.” stated Thomas Civeit.

He is the CEO and founder of Elysium Space. Civeit also expressed the company’s “honor” in helping families achieve their space dreams.

Presently, there already are 100 participants to book a place on this upcoming mission. These include aerospace enthusiasts, U.S. military veterans, and families just looking to celebrate their loved one “within the poetry of the starry sky”.

Family members will be able to watch the historical launch either live, as they are welcome to join the mission team at Vandenberg or through a live stream.

The Elysium Star II will Take a 2-Years Trip Among the Stars

According to the release, the memorial spacecraft will be launched on a Sun-synchronized orbit. This will ensure its passing over every corner of the world during its journey among the stars. Set to last two years, the space memorial will have a quite poetic end. Following this time period, the Elysium Star II should re-enter Earth’s atmosphere in the form of a shooting star.

Elysium Space claims that modern technology will also help “enhance” this journey’s personal experience and connection. The exact, real-time location of the Elysium Star II will be accessible at all times thanks to a free Android and iOS app.

Reservations for a place on the Elysium Star II are still open on the company’s website. But it would be useful to know that they begin at $2,490.
